“…The Holy Spirit doesn’t let to be felt by the man who is weak of humility…” – Elder Proclu Nicău, Sfaturi duhovnicești (+ 2017)

…The Holy Spirit doesn’t let to be felt by the man who is weak of humility. Even though there are people who want to save themselves, the Good Lord doesn’t discover them the gifts of the eternity for He has mercy for those souls. The words of the Psalms are fulfilled with them: “Plenty is the multitude of thy goodness, oh God that Thou hast hid to those who fear Thee”.

The Holy Spirit, even if someone is not enhanced in humility, covers his good deeds so as not to be plundered. In the fight for the achievement of the humility, sometimes the devil mixes in the mind of the man. When the mind spends in prayer, it cannot mix anything, it stays away, but it lurks the moment when the mind is empty, when it has no task. Sometimes, when I was trying to weep for my sins, the devil told me: “Why do you humiliate yourself so much? I know your sins but you are a little better than those who are bad.” It didn’t say “than those who are good”, it knew I would not believe it. At that moment that was a great blow for me. These temptations come when you strive to gather your mind. When you fall asleep saying: “Lord Jesus…” the devil wakes you up in order to sleep again with your mind spread. This is its rancor: not to fall asleep from praying too much. However, the best achievement is to sleep with “Lord Jesus…” on your lips…
